Dykstra/Dijkstra Family

The Dykstra/Dijkstra family, as you can tell from the -stra suffix, is originally from Friesland, specifically the modern southern municipalities of De Friese Meren and Weststellingwerf.  The spelling of the last name, like so many others, was likely changed around the time they came to the United States.

• died 8 Nov 1988 in Platte, Charles Mix, South Dakota; buried in Platte City Cemetery, Platte, Charles Mix, South Dakota

2. DIRK/DURK DIJKSTRA

• born 13 Jul 1869 in Lemsterland, Friesland, Netherlands
• parents: Ane Jochems Dijkstra and Nantje Durks de Haan
• emigrated with brother Jochem in the spring of 1893 to aunt and uncle Wiebe and Wybrig Dijk/Dyk (their father's sister) in Orange City, Sioux, Iowa
• married (1) Ytje/Edith Groen on 22 Feb 1897 in the US, probably in Platte, Charles Mix, South Dakota (she died 3 Jan 1903); married (2) Geertje "Gertie" Meyerink on 9 Nov 1905 in Platte, Charles Mix, South Dakota (she died 14 Mar 1906); married (3) Henrietta Buitenbos in 1907
